Nestled between hills in the Rajasthani desert is a small but pretty town, Pushkar. For decades this town has been popular with backpackers but for much longer it has been a place of pilgrimage and to this day the lakeside is a hive of religious activity.

Our accommodation was in a permanent tent on a property overlooking Pushkar some 8km away so we spent much of our time wandering through local villages to the local bus stop to take us into town. Mobbed by excited children and navigating assorted livestock, this walk was almost as rewarding as the destination!

But once in town the sights, sounds and smells combined into a unique experience which only a place like this can provide.
