And so it begins…

It is July. Melbourne is cold. We wanted to be warm. Maybe not quite this warm…

Kyoto is hot and humid. Quite a contrast to the chilly days we’ve had in Melbourne of late. And in typical enthusiastic, manic fashion we spend the first day pretending public transport doesn’t exist and walking the length and breadth of this city and today, feeling every last muscle that hasn’t been used like this in a long, long time! (refer to Paris entry – that has to be it)

A photographic highlight of Kyoto has to be the Fushimi Inari shrine – a hill with a winding trail of orange Torii gates (see pic) as featured in Lost in Translation and Memoirs of a Geisha. A couple of hours walking until we sweated our body weights and we returned to Kyoto only to walk some more – along the river to Gion, the famous and historic area where geisha’s hang out…

So, today – maybe we’ll use the train… It is raining after all!

It’s good to be back in Kyoto…
