To some it might seem crazy to have a long weekend in Burma, but a combination of a cheap airfare and my favourite city in Asia was just too great a temptation!

Yangon (the former capital of Burma) is a very old city with the Shwedagon Pagoda (said to be over 2000 years old) at its heart. The British turned up, built a railway and laid out a city in a classic western-style grid.

Since their departure in 1948, Yangon (previously Rangoon) has naturally grown but retained much of its colonial charm with little money available for re-development as in other Asian cities.

What I love most is its people as no doubt you can see from the following photos… they are warm, generous and always very welcoming.

What an amazing couple of days in Yangon.
