Every Sunday, Harajuku is the centre of the universe! Young Tokyo residents come from far and wide, often dressed wildly in costume to meet, eat and most importantly, shop… Having walked through quiet back streets from Shinjuku – the dense craziness on a sunny Autumn morning is quite intense!

Yet, only a few hundred metres away, very traditional Japanese weddings were taking place – one after another. The wedding photography – an event in itself, involved a team of at least 4 photographers and several assistants – working together in practiced efficiency. And don’t expect too many smiles in the formal group portraits – this is serious business!!!

In the evening we returned to Shinjuku to photograph the dusk and finished off the night eating okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) at a traditional restaurant where it sizzles in front of you on a small hotplate – its progress monitored by a sandtimer. Yum!
