We couldn’t leave this island paradise without soaking up a bit of culture and history – so off we went on a 4 hour tour of the south…

First stop – the prison, built by the Chinese, expanded by the French and US and full of historical reminders of torture and abuse. Phu Quoc (like Australia) is the perfect island prison location!

From there, the pearl farm (and hardcore retail) and then the very lovely Sao Beach (named after starfish which were fished to extinction…) This is what Phu Quoc does well – a stunning beach with no annoying vendors or overcrowding such as in Thailand.

Returning to our hotel took us along the coast to a fishing village and finally a pepper farm. A wander along our own beautiful beach was a  nice finish to our stay…

Time to pack our bags and head back to Ho Chi Minh, Singapore and … Melbourne.
